Pilot Reports

I  have the XMWX Weather from AirGator. I've had it about 10 months and there have been about 7 upgrades since. Each one made the unit better.

There were a few glitches early on but I've seen no problems in the past month since the last update. I am amazed each time I fire up the plane and load my weather system on my Toshiba PDA. I have a stike finder, and it has almost no value in determining go, no go decisions. For $50.00 a month in WX subscription fees it's the best deal in aviation. Your platform has a lot to do with performance, I believe it's overkill to use a laptop or tablet, a PDA has plenty of display to give you the info you need. My PDA sits in a cradle with a suction cup attached to the left side of the windshield, which makes it totally non obtrusive to viewing all my instruments. The radio portion of the setup is in the pouch next to my left leg. It is powered by a nearby cigar lighter I had installed. I wouldn't leave home without it.

Pilot Reports

My flight was to Asheville AVL from Toronto on Friday afternoon and  back today, Anyone in the north east or central US knows it has been quite a week end weather wise. Mist, haze, convective segmets and isolated CBs and major rain/wind storms all over the weather forecast was doable as on my route it was all PROB for the CB's , never the less there was a lot of cumulus build up and heat haze. I would have been uncomfortable doing the flight both ways without this system.
